For the last quarter of my junior year in Lights Academy, we are doing an individual project which has to be modeled off and driven by the phrase "What would it look like if...?". For this project I decided to make my driving question What would it look like if humans inhabited hundreds of other planets and solar systems within our galaxy? In this project I want to explore a number of different aspects of what the inhabitation of other planets by humans would look like; from the process of getting to new worlds; to the communication between planet; to the governing of these worlds. During the entirety of this project, I will be reading the science fiction book Xenocide by Orson Scott Card to help me have ideas and inspiration as to what the answer to this question might look like. I am also required to have two interviews with experts on the matter, so I will probably try to interview a Theoretical Astrophysicist professor to get the astronomy side of things, and then a U.S. History professor to talk about the colonization of the America's as a way to compare the small scale colonization to the large scale colonization. I have already come up with 10 auxiliary questions that I will use to inspect the different aspects of what it would look like for humans to inhabit hundreds of other worlds.
In this project I am starting off with a lot of assumptions as to how advanced humans are with their technology, and actually even some disregards of basic astronomical knowledge, but I'm not necessarily going for scientific accuracy here, but rather I am attempting to analyse the different aspects of human life after our species has spread it's wings and left it's mark in the universe.
If anyone has questions or points that you would like to make, please feel free to comment and I will address it as soon as I can! Thanks so much for reading.
